Preparing Your Home Before the Crew Arrives
Containment goes faster when the room is empty of the things you care about. You do not need to pre-clean the mold. You do need a path, an outlet, and a place for us to stage that is not your dining table unless you want it to be.

Move these
Fragile items, medications, and anything porous you do not want in a work zone: clothes, open food, pet beds, the litter box. Clear a walking path from the door to the basement or attic. If the crawl hatch is in a closet, empty the closet.
Tell us about alarms that will object to dust, and about a pet that cannot be in a closed bedroom. Birds especially should be out of the house during any work that raises dust.
Leave these
Do not bleach the area the night before. Do not tear out drywall as a head start. Do not run a fogger to 'get a jump.' You will destroy clues and, on a bad day, contaminate a second room.
Do show us the leak, the sump, and the downspout. The outside of the house is part of the appointment. If it is a rental, have the decision-maker reachable by phone when we find the thing behind the wall.
- Clear a path and empty the hatch closet.
- Do not pre-treat the mold with bleach or a fogger.
- Pets, especially birds, need a plan.
