Mold After a Washer or Dishwasher Leak
Washer hoses and dishwasher drains are the unglamorous leaks of Adams County. They run across a slab, under a vinyl floor, or into a carpeted room next door. Caught the same day, they are often a dry-out. Found because the toe-kick smells two weeks later, they are a small remediation.

Same-day moves
Kill the valve. Pull the appliance out if you can do it safely. Extract water. Pull up the edge of vinyl or carpet to see if the pad is wet. Wet pad does not 'mostly dry.' It comes out.
Cabinets made of particle board swell and then grow. If the toe-kick is damp and swollen, plan on cutting it back to dry material rather than hoping a fan cures composite wood.
The hidden week
If the leak was slow, the floor can look fine and the subfloor or the wall behind the dishwasher can be the wet layer. We meter under and behind, not just the surface you already wiped.
Replace rubber hoses with braided lines while the appliance is out. It is the cheapest prevention we will mention all year, and it is not a service we need to sell you.
- Wet carpet pad and swollen particle board should come out.
- Slow leaks hide in the subfloor behind the appliance.
- Braided hoses are the follow-up that prevents the sequel.
